The Dana Brown Mainstage Theatre
In January of 2007, this theatre was renamed the Dana Brown Mainstage Theatre, in honor of Dana Brown, who died of cancer in March of 2007. Dana taught theatre at R.A. Long for 27 years, and his humor, passion, love of diversity, and desire to share quality theatre inspire those of us who knew him to keep working the craft. This theatre program is a district program shared by both Mark Morris and R.A. Long. Sometimes students from other area schools also take courses and audition for our shows.
The cast and crew of Dana's final show, Noises Off!, decided to start a scholarship for students who have been involved in Mainstage. Proceeds from the final performance provided the start of the scholarship fund. Jesse Grindeland, a 1995 Mainstage graduate, also generously donated to the fund. The munificence of those who have given money to this fund has been amazing. We are able to give out at least one scholarship a year to graduating seniors. Thank you to all of you who contribute to the scholarship fund. It is a wonderful way to honor the man who has taught so many of us so much. Another scholarship available to Mainstage technical theatre students is the Daryl Duell Memorial Technical Theatre Scholarship, started several years ago by Daryl's mom Chris. Daryl was part of Dana's tech crew and he went on to study technical theatre at Central Washington University, and was working in NYC as a theatre technician when he passed away in 2005.
